Peer workforce development

Certificate IV of Mental Health Peer Work

In partnership with Wodonga TAFE (RTO 3097) MHV is offering a national qualification developed in conjunction with a steering committee of peers and organisations in the mental health field. This is the must-have qualification for peer workers.

Delivered over 18 months via Zoom, one day per month with weekly learning support sessions, the course features a combination of skills and frameworks to implement in the workplace and inform professional development.

Foundations of Peer Work

This five-day training program is delivered from content taken directly from the Certificate IV of Mental Health Peer Work and is an essential course for anyone wanting to understand the fundamentals of peer work. With content including:

  • Approaches and frameworks of peer work practice
  • Understanding the role of the peer worker
  • Legal and ethical considerations
  • Using lived experience effectively
  • Developing and facilitating groups

This course will provide you with the fundamental components to allow you to be an effective peer worker in any organisation.

Professional Development

All of Mental Health Victoria’s professional development and short courses are suitable for peer workers. With a Senior Trainer (Peer Specialist) on staff, Mental Health Victoria ensures that all content is appropriate to the entire mental health workforce and in most instances is delivered by trainers with a lived experience and a variety of other qualifications.
